Fall Swiss - 10/14 - 11/11 - R2 results, tentative R3 (11/4) pairings - NO CHESS 10/28 !!

Hi all -

Note - 10/28 - NO CHESS - Eagles Club will be refinishing the floor, so R3 is 11/4, and R4 is 11/11.

Couple of notes:
- Love to see the new players and the huge U1200 section.  Hope you all have fun and continue to play regularly.  If you have any questions about anything :) come see a TD.
- Couple of recent events to talk through:  There's NEVER any reason for anyone else in the room to EVER talk to a player in an active game.  Whatever it might be about, it isn't allowed.  If the room is ON FIRE, get a TD, don't interrupt the players yourself :)
- There was also a discussion about rules as well - both players agreed about what happened, but didn't know what the actual rule was.  Say it with me: "Get a TD".  No point arguing with your opponent, you'll both just get mad.  Let a TD resolve it.  In this case there was a touch-move violation, and they didn't know what the resolution was.  We reminded them that it's:
   a) replace the touched piece - reset the position to before the touch,
   b) if the touched piece can be legally moved in the original position, it must be the piece moved,
or else (can't be legally moved),
   c) there's no penalty (but repeatedly doing this would be distracting behavior, which would get a penalty)

Look over to the right - There's a bunch of posts describing rules that less-experienced players might want to get familiar with (and even some more experienced players, too...).

Brad Wells (U1200) - you were a no-show and withdrawn.  If you'd like to rejoin, send a message with what happened on Wed

See below for last night's results, and prospective pairings for next week.  I know of requested byes next round for Nooren, and Robin's withdrawn from the event.

If you need a bye (or will be late, or anything else), please leave a note below on this post or send an email (chess@demastri.com) or text (312-952-6495).

10-7-2026 Blitz Event Results

We had a nice turnout last night - 24 total players including a bunch of kids!!
We split into 4 sections seeded evenly by blitz rating, as a double RR - and fun was had by all.

The section winners were:

Charles Johnson (10/10) - Aaron Krause (12/12) - Shravan Sabarish (10/10) and Shashwanth Sabarish (9/10)

After a draw to seed the semis, and some very interesting chess, we had the following results

Charles Johnson beat Shashwanth Sabarish
and
Shravan Sabarish beat Aaron Krause (needed an extra game after the first two split!)

After a minute to catch our breath, Charles and Shravan fough a tough final, with the results:

Fall Blitz WCC Champion - Charles Johnson
Fall Blitz WCC Runner-Up - Shravan Sabarish

Congratulations to Charles and Shravan for a wonderful performance and thanks to everyone for a great event.  Thanks also to Jim and Kevin for running the event (and to Ed Kopp for becoming a new Club TD - congrats!!  You'll be rueing your decision soon enough, lol).

See you next week for the start of a new event.
