For most folks, here are the basic ground rules:
- show up on Wed
- look at the pairing sheet
- play chess...
Hopefully that's enough - if you need a little more detail, here's where you can find it:
- From now until next Wed (2/4), respond to this post (or text or email) if you want to be entered in the event. I'll keep a running list, sorted by rating in this post as I get them. If you have to wait to Wed to enter, please come a little early - I'm predicting there will be some chaos next week...
- You will be put in a quad with 3 players closest to you in rating. We're just going down the list by rating, highest 4 is quad A, next 4 is quad B, etc. If there is an odd number at the end, we may alter the last couple of sections to round it out - 3 players in each of the last two sections is better than a 4 and a 2, for example.
- Instead of playing 1 G/100d5 game with assigned colors, like usual, you will play TWO G/45d5 games - one with each color against the same opponent - every night. Mark results like usual.
- We will use 3 weeks for this event. Week 1: 1v4, 2v3, Week 2: 1v2, 3v4, Week 3: 1v3. 2v4.
- We have the 4th week reserved for makeup games as needed.
- PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - If you can't make a week, that's OK, just TELL US EARLY so your opponent doesn't waste their time. If you forfeit, it's up to your opponent whether or not they want to make it up in week 4. If you let us know, then it will be scheduled for week 4 like any other match.
- In week 4 some matches will be playing makeup games, but most will not. For those players without quad games, we will have our first "ladder" event. For this event all available players will be listed, and we'll play one rated game of G100d/5 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, etc. with colors assigned by computer. This will establish your "WCC ladder" ranking, which we can use in other one-off ladder events. More to say on that in another post...
- If you know you won't be able to play 3 rounds over the next 4 weeks, please don't register. The one concern folks consistently raised is that "Quads don't work because players bail". Don't be that guy. To help alleviate this concern, we'll only accept players for this event with at least 10 rated games at WCC over the last 6 months and less than 3 forfeits. I don't necessarily want to post a list, but if that applies to you, I'll let you know by email on entry.
